Big Boy refers to the mascot of the Bob's Big Boy chain, in which two Pop! releases have occurred. The first release is number 4 in the Pop! Ad Icons line, where he was sold in 2016 SDCC Pop! Up! Shop exclusive limited to 480 pieces. In 2018, a second version of the character was released to shops to celebrate Funko's 20th anniversary.
Background[]
Big Boy is the mascot for Bob's Big Boy restaurants. He is a chubby boy in red and white checked overalls holding a Big Boy sandwich. He is loosely based on Richard Woodruff.
History[]
Big Boy is considered a important character in Funko's history, as the company was originally formed in 1998 to create a Big Boy bobblehead. This was the first Funko release.
The original Big Boy Pop! was revealed as a SDCC exclusive for the Funko-Shop.com Pop! Up! Shop on July 6, 2016. The sale of the figure occurred from Thursday-Sunday (July 21-24 2016) at 10:00am-3:00pm. This release was limited to 480 pieces, and as such remains one of the most expensive Pop! figures at retail.
In 2018 it was announced a second Big Boy pop was to be released to celebrate Funko's 20th anniversary. Occasionally referred to as Big Boy (New Pose), this release removes the plate Big Boy held in the original Pop! and places his hand on his overalls, mimicking the original bobblehead release of the character. This was a retail release with a special 20th anniversary sticker.
